How did life change?

The Industrial Revolution changed Britain. Many complex and connected changes happened.
In this blog I want you to consider the following concepts:

Change and continuity
How did the country change during the industrial revolution? How did factories change and develop? Did people change the way they live and work? What did not change?
New technology, new places to work and new public health problems.

Cause and consequence
Why did the country change? Were these changes positive? Who benefited from the changes? Did life improve for ordinary people?

Interpretation
Why do historians have different opinions about the industrial revolution? Why did people at the time think differently about the industrial revolution?

well i think dhat in da industrial revolution we are the ones that benifit from it the most because if it wasnt for them children and other people that worked in the factories and had a part in the industrial revolution there would still be a possiblility that the the country wuld sti be lyk dhat todaii
soo basically they went through all that and it made it a better place. we have them people to thank for many different things like the laws how we cant work till a certain age and we have to have a proper education (even though it ent lyk dat in all countrys) and no we dont have to work in factories n dtuff lyk dat

For this blog I am going to be talking about change and continuity.Well in my view I think that the Industrial revolution was a dramatic change of lifestyle for the People of Britain however was it a good change or a bad change?
It affected agriculture, manufacturing, production, and transportation. I think that for some people the change benefited them and they were grateful but for others it was bad and I shall be explaining this further on wards.
Changes and continuity:
The changes that occured in the Industrial Revolution were a profuse amount. Such as the flying shuttle was invented 1738, rendering the old process of carrying the weft through the threads of the warp obsolete and enabling the weaver to double output. Gradually the power loom began to be used in the woollen industry as well as the cotton trade for which it had been invented. This was a manually making clothes to machinery making clothes which was a lot easier as first the cottage system was very difficult and stressing furthermore they were all in fatigue! They had to use simple needles and thread to sew a vast amount of clothes and it was very hard. The facotries used spinning wheels and large machines normally powered by water wheels and steam power its original iron water wheel was designed by Thomas Hewes and built between 1816 and 1820. The factories had some grotesque conditions: they were filthy and people were sweating as it was so hot which caused a malodourous smell as windows were not allowed open. It was also very dangerous as there were no health and safety rules so anyone could have been crippled for life. Orphans came and worked as they were paid low wages and couls squeeze through small holes. There were long working hours and small breaks so it was very exhausting. Many people would have preferred to work at home rather that go to work at a place like the factories!

People changed the way they lived and worked as they moved from The Cottage System to The Factories so they were mainly at home then before when they were in tho comfort of their own home making clothes. There was new technology(water wheels and steam power engines), new places to work ( factories) and new public health problems (cholera, tyhoid).

Now I am going to be talking about Cause and consequence.
Cause and Consequence:
Well the consequences were that after the Industrial Revolution there were no wars taking place and there was a huge increase in the numbers of people employed in industrial manufacturing, making goods of all kinds, but especially textiles, iron goods, metal wares and pottery, for both overseas and domestic markets. More of the working population also came to live and work in towns and cities in occupations such as petty trading, retailing, transport and domestic service as well as manufacturing. A smaller and smaller proportion of the working population, less than a third by the end of our period, came to live in the countryside and get their living from the land. In the early eighteenth century more than two thirds of the labour force had been in agriculture. Towns and cities, including relatively new centres of population and trade grew at an unprecedented rate, spurred by the high rates of population growth that accompanied industrialisation. Also changes were made as innovations in the sort of crops grown, in crop and livestock rotations, and in the regional and local specialisation of production. These contributed significantly to productivity increase. Some areas specialised in arable production, others in pasture and many farms near to towns specialised in dairy produce, poultry, and vegetables. Change occurred in the structure of landowning and farming with the growth of larger farms, which were normally rented out by landowners to tenant farmers. Such farms, once they exceeded around 100 acres, were too large for a family labour force and tended to employ male wage labour. a unique change occurred at this time because such growth did not usher in mass starvation or major increases in disease or mortality (such as had occurred during the Black Death in the 14th century). During and after the industrial revolution, for the first time in history, population growth and economic growth were able to occur together over the long term and without the former snuffing out the latter. This is why the industrial revolution was such a watershed for some people. The pre-industrial limits to both population growth and economic growth were destroyed. Industrial Revolution brought the hope that technology and progress might create a world without disease and suffering. Homes were largely rural and functional, and the idea of decorative and comfortable surroundings, along with home 'entertainment', was the reserve of a handful of the privileged nobility. Yet the Industrial Revolution ushered in an entirely new member of society, the urban middle-class. Our home lives became irrevocably changed.

Life did improve as the Public Health Law was passed out and this improved living conditions and stopped people from getting diseases furthermore there were more stable homes and better waste disposal. Life improved for ordinary people as first they were sweltering in the valley of despair and it was oppression but then everything changed and their life expectancy improved. Clothes were being mass produced so theey were madde much more quicker than they used to be by the cottage system.
Interpretation:
Well, some historians have different opinions on the Industrial Revolution as they may think that the Industrial Revolution bought new technology to us and improved our lifestyle but others may think that people were going through a hard time as there were long hours. Aalso, in my opinion easier" life which means we live longer, but we breed too much - there are too many of us for the planet to support. The mechanisation of warfare has created doomsday weapons and there is no guarantee these won't be used. Mass private transport, and huge industries, powered by fossil fuels, are adversely affecting the environment, soon irrevocably so. We are drowning in our own waste and are consuming the world's irreplaceable resources at an increasing rate!!!
The industrial revolution enabled mass production and the freedom to move away from the congested, overpopulated cities. Industry was released to expand into the countryside and bring jobs and new wealth to people who were digging a living from the ground. The down side is pollution and urban sprawl. Money became the most desired attribute to work. The down side is, it will probably killed all the people! Also the people in those times may not have liked the idea of "change" because they have just gotten used to the lifestyle of the Cottage System and trransport and stuff but now they have to change all over again!
Finally I conclude that I believe the Industrial Revolution helped the country of England out a lot, I don't see why they were upset with it. It benefited the country, and helped it stand on it's feet. I think that the industrial revolution should be see as a pillar that held the country up. If the country never industrialized it would be falling apart today!

Hi Miss
Britain has changed alot during the I.R the way people lived the way people worked everythin.People made new inventions new machines to do work alot quicker and people were loosing their job beacause the machine were doing all the work for you so people were loosing money and more people were getting poorer.People started to make factories and the city was getting polluted. Villadges turned into cities beacause people wanted to move near a factorie to work there .The people who made the factories made children from as young as 3-4 to work in facrories and adults work there aswell. There was more children working in factories than adults. Most of the children was orphan .The children had no freedom beacause they worked from day to night and almost had no sleep or time to rest there small heads. The skinny children and small children had to go under these dangerous machines and sometimes it cut the small childrens limbs and they became disbled beacause they coulnt walk anymore.People now tell uss that its dangerous to go anywhere near these large and dangerous machines .The life for children must have changed alot beacause being taken away from your parents and work for these lazy and stupid people and getting beaten up by them for no reason.

Thanks for reading and EID MUBARAK HAVE A VERY NICE EID SEE YA

I think during the industrial revolution the country changed a lot I think the most important changes during the industrial revolution were agriculture, manufacturing, production, construction, farming, population, health and transportation.
Factories changed and developed a lot during the industrial revolution for example muscle power changed to machinery and steam power which meant jobs were done quicker and more efficiently, factories got more equipped with newer technology.
Yes I think during the industrial revolution people changed the way they lived and worked for the reason that people had better clothes, more money, status, power and better jobs. However I also think that during the industrial revolution all these changes caused quite a lot of health problems for example contaminated water caused a lot of diseases like typhoid, cholera which caused many deaths and much more.
I think most of the changes during the industrial revolution were positive and we benefitted the most because if it was not for the children and others who worked in factories and risked their lives during the industrial revolution then the country might have still been like then and we would have been suffering so I think we should be very thankful to them because of who we got such luxurious lives also we now have better jobs, water supply, medication and much more. I think life for ordinary people improved for a few but not all I think this because allot of people lost there jobs for example when there was not machinery 10 people were doing a job but when there was machinery only one person was needed to check if the machine was working properly which meant the other nine lost their job …

we have benefitted alot in the sense that machines are around like we can jus sit on our backsides and relax all day for example i was watchin the simpsons the other day and homer became a trucker and the truck he had had a auto drive system built in therefore homer just sat back and relaxed. but i also think dat we also benifitted because in the industrial revolution days the children were working in factories and like letitia said if it wasnt for those children being in alot of pain and agony then maybe today we would be working in factories today its like they put them selves in pain to save us from a life of factory work. we also benifit because king cholera is not around or typhoid so that how i think we`ve benifitted.

Industrial revolution is defined as the vast social and economic changes that resulted from the development of steam-powered machinery and mass-production methods, beginning in the late eighteenth century in Great Britain and extending through the nineteenth century. One of the most impressive developments during the industrial revolution was the introduction of power-driven looms and spinning wheels in the textile industry which led the way for the early factories of Britain. The textile industry in Britain started as a home based industry in the late 1600’s. In the 1690’s the wool industry started as small ventures by farmers using family members to work the wool to provide supplemental income. Some of them started employing more workers to work for them and slowly became business owners. As more and more small businesses began expanding their operations by hiring wage workers during the early phases of the industrial revolution a new manufacturing middle class emerged. The mass production of goods resulted in cheaper products being available in larger quantities. The industrial revolution progressively replaced humans as the primary source of power for production with motors powered with steam.By the 1730s, cotton industry started picking up in Britain. In 1733, John Kay invented the flying shuttle that was powered by foot pedal.Britain also occurred in the field of transportation. As productivity soared, ability to transport raw materials to the factories and finished products to market over long distancs.Workin in a factory was tirin. You had to stand there for more than 12 hours and people were trapped, crushed, injured or even dead. These jobs were made for kids at the age of 4 because they get paid less and are smaller.Life changed as soon as technology
was bought up. Some lost jobs and others carried on.The thing which have not changed are the people still workin in factories even in technology and so on...

hi my name is rahin i am going to be talking about how england has changed over the industrial revolution.
first of all people had nener cloths and new techonology and they made facotories so people at home did not have to do anything but the very bad thing about the facories is that children have to work in them and people would not even care if the children got seriously injured and they would not even care if you died. the children at that time would like going school insted of working in creul factories, but not all were bad some accually cared for everyone and made sure that they had good health and working conditions so they do not die. the other good thing is that there was better techonology like steam powered trains and water powered water wheels, there is also a bad thing about them because, even though it is great techonology it also pollutted the air and waters and at that time they were throwing junk in the river tems and the factories were pollutting the air with the black smoke.
because of this peoples health problems were just getting worser and worser. so there were two parties at that time clean and dirty, clean wanted to tell the goverment to clean up the streets and rivers however the dirty ones said the goverment dont need to do it if they do we will just be lazy and they do not need to interfere in our lives. but at the end the goverment cleaned it all up and made new laws this is also like on the news about baby p who was used like a punching bag for his father and his mother abuses him, the thing that was interesting is that his docers solocitors nad all those people knew that was happenning but they never done anything and then the media found out and then the goverment found out and they were outraged that no one did anything to stop what what was happening to the poor defensless baby from dying, butbaby p's death had made new laws that people should take more care. and that is all i have to say.
[have a nice eid everyone!]

Britain has changed during the industrial revolution. The country changed people moved from the villages to the towns for money and jobs.Factories changed and developed a lot during the industrial revolution for example machines worked faster and they were powerful they didn’t need children to work because they got machines and they didn’t have to pay machines. people life’s changed because it was illegal for a child to work people had to get played, and better jobs. Health used to be very bad in the I.R people got t.b and cholera, but in the I.R. a man wrote to the government saying people are dieing at a young age because of diseases people had there rubbish took every weak clean water. And clean drain pipes.

HI,

DURING THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION LIFE CHANGED A LOT BECAUSE PEOPLEZ LIFESTYLES CHANGED.THE FACTORIES THAT PEOPLE WORKED IN WERE AWFUL.THERE WERE LONG WORKING HOURS AND SMALL BREAKS SO IT WAS VERY EXHAUSTING. MANY PEOPLE WOULD HAVE PREFERRED TO WORK AT HOME RATHER THAN 2 GO 2 WORK AT A FACTORY.

BUT THANKS TO EDWIN CHADWICKS POLITICAL VIEWS HE CHANGED THE WAYS PEOPLE WORKED AND IMPROVED THE LIFESTYLE IN FACTORIES, LIKE HE MADE THE GOVERMANT CHANGE THE LAW ABOUT CHILDEREN WORKIN UPTO 19 HOURS TO,2 HOURS A DAY. ALSO THE EQUIPMENT THAT WAS REALLY DANGEROUS AND CUT PEOPLEZ LIMBS WERE THEN SAFE TO USE. THE ONLY BAD THING THING WAS THAT CHILDREN STILL WORKED IN FACTORIES FOR UPTO 2 HOURS A DAY.THE COUNTRY CHANGED ALOT. LIFE CHANGED ALOT FOR ORDINARY PEOPLE BECAUSE THEY GOT MORE SLEEP THAN BEFORE AND ALSO THEY DID NOT GET HURT EVERYDAY.
WE BENIFITTED FROM THESE CHANGES BECAUSE IF EDWIN CHADWICK DID NOT STAND UP 4 WAT WAS RYT WE WUD BE WORKIN UPTO 19 HOURS AND WOULD BE GETTIN OUR LIMBS STUK IN MACHINES!!!!

we have bennifitted a lot since the industrial revolution because of all the techonology and machinary people have built for us. back then in the industrial revolution times owners used to make small children go under machines and clean up which could cause them to lose body parts which made them disabled for life. while now we have a law saying that it is ILLIGAL to make a child under 16 work, you can only work if you are over 16 and have completed your studys and if you have got good grades you will get better jobs then just sitting on your backside.
they had no good traveling but now we have a lot of differant travel ways such as cars, trains, buses and much, much more.

It was very hard to work in a factory. You had long hours and very little pay. Men were paid: Little, women: less, and children: least of all. factors had changed a lot they had changed a lot of peoples lifes.in Industrial Revolution times it was very dirty people had to drink dirty water and they did not have proper sewages BUT then there was a man who was called John snow who had took of the pump so people could not have the dirty water.

Industrial Revolution factors were quiet big. Children had to work in the factors. the children who were small had to work underneath the machines some-times girls would have got there hair trapped in the machines and most of the children would have had there fingers chopped of.

I think life in Britain changed dramatically trough the industrial revolution.
there were lots of changes some were advantages some disadvantages.
.transport: transport at first were horses and carts which were slow and less people could travel on them but then a new invention was invented the steam engine which was fast and could carry lots of passengers it was quite safe and could take far cities.

. Cities: before there used to be small villages with little amount of people living in them then cities began expanding more people arrived so that means more homes, jobs and also more factories were being made so perhaps the people came to get a job.

.population: at first was small less people in a city but more started settling in an area i think because more factories or houses.

.factories: before people used to make their products at home with their machines the people began building factories which they make the things for you and more people worked to get it done. how ever small children had to work in harsh and bad conditions which was really bad.

also sewers and water ans sanitary at first was a problem because the government did not want to help then EDWIN CHADWICK changed it and said people are dying because no one is giving attention t them and not providing them with the right stuff.

We have benefited a lot because all tease machinery nad technology was built for us and it is really useful and without it would ba a big problem. Also we now know things which are bad like making children work in factories doing dangerous things so we have benifited a lot and we know what things cuase disese like dirty war=eter bad sewers so ithink we have really benifted alot

thankyou

I think britian has changed alot with the I.R because the way people live and how people adapt to stuff.
It has also changed alot with machines because people have become more lazier because machines do evrything for us also it has changed for us because children dont really have to work
so adults work for families and children dont and it has changed loads and loads.

.:khadra:. said...

hi
There was many bad things about the I.R beacause children was being forced to work in these factories and worked for many long long hours and earned a very low wadge. The small children (skinny children) had to go under these dangerous machines and sometimes their limbs were cut of and they became disanled. The windows wernt aloud to be opend and many people were sweating and gases fom the machines were being produced and it probably must have stank alot .

People were getting poor beacause they got kicked out of their jobs beacause the machines in the factories are doing all the work for them and more people were starting to live in the streets beacause they had nowere else to live in sothey lived on the streets with no money and no food.
There was more diseases being introduced like chlorea which as made out of drinking dirty water and noone checked the water and more people were drinking it and died there is now goveners to check the water for you if it was clean or not before providing the water to the public.
Thre was pollution in the skies and people were breathing these dangerous gases .Diseases was spread very quickly and more people were moving to the cities to earn more money and there was almost ten people living in only oine room which must have been very uncomfortable.

during the industrial revolution there werte alot of changes made 1 of those changes were that there were less farms and space and alot more factorys which meant alot more PULLUTION there were also more illnesses like cholera!
alot of children were also imployed to work in factorys which was very dangerous work. Alotr of children had there hand and limbs disconected or chopped off. Most of the children were imployed because they were small and could fit under the DANGEROUS machinary.
The country changedfor the worst and the factory owners benefitted from this because this meant that they could imploy the children for less thier average pay was 6p!!
The children worked for nearly 18 hours and had 4 hours sleep and 2 mels a day they also only had 1 hour rest.
I think historians have different views about this because there are al;ot of different sources that show fctorys in the good light and bad. so historians sometimes dont know which to believe.
I think pople during the industrial revolution thought it was good because they thought that it meant less work or more money!

life changed a lot for the people in the i.r this is how.

more factories began building so this would the change of home manufacturers so they don't have to make the products at home its already made for them.

also farming changed for the life of the farmers as before they had to do all the work themselves so when they made the machines which do the work for them however they could loose their jobs and they would earn less money which would be a problem for them.

life changed for the children they use3d to do house work or farming but now they work all day in factories in bad and harsh conditions they limbs came off they worked in hot and crowded conditions but not all factories were like this some were safe they looked after the children gave them education like quarry bank mill but after a while things changed and factories had better rules.

sanitary and water supplies were at first they caused a lot of deaths and disease like chorea but then a man complained and said that people are dying because of this so this has changed.

life changed a lot for the people and it has helped us to

Before the law changed children worked from as early as 8 years old and worked in really bad conditions. It was really dirty and smelly and manky. Children got ill easy and some died.
But today we have education and health and safety rules.

we are also more advanced because today we have transportation to transport working goods to diffrent places back then the children would hav to carry all the working goods to where they need to be taken.this is why we have benfitted alot.

I believe that throughout the industrial revolution the country changed a lot the main alters during the period of the industrial revolution were population, manufacturing, production, agriculture, construction, farming and health.
Also many things developed or changed during the industrial revolution for example Factories were improved with better and newer technology. In my point of view I think people did change the way they lived during the industrial revolution because people got better opportunities i.e. better jobs and facilities. After coming to a conclusion I think that we now in the 21st century benefitted from the industrial revolution the most because if it was not for those people who improved conditions or worked in the dangerous factories then there is a fair chance of the country still being like that and we would’ve been enduring a very bad experience so I think we should be very thankful to all the people who suffered themselves during the industrial revolution but improved our lives....
